A former pupil of St Aelreds High School Alex made the step up to senior rugby when Wigan visited Widnes for a Fifth Round Challenge Cup-tie in 2010, making his league debut in the win at Keighley at the end of that season, having been with the Vikings for four years. His quiet nature off the pitch belies an uncompromising on-field approach, supported by a great appetite for work, which saw Alex acquit himself well in eight appearances in his first season of top flight rugby league in 2012. Despite suffering a posterior cruciate ligament injury Alex added a further 17 appearances, including his first senior try against Hull KR, in 2013. Further strides were made in 2014 and 2015 as Alex became a key member of the squad, missing a total of just nine matches as he moves towards 100 appearances for the Vikings. In contrast knee surgery restricted Alex to just 5 appearances in 2016.
